From Idyllwild Arts, this is The December 2008 ARTSPod – your monthly review of performances and events on the Idyllwild Arts Campus. In today’s ARTSPod we will hear music from the October Music in the Meadow Performance followed by Creative Writing readings and then selections from the November voice recital and Chamber Music Concerts.

First from The October 27th Music in the Meadow we have:
- Cardas by Monti, performed by Martin and Tian Peng
- Sonata in E-flat Major, Op. 81a, Les Adieux Adagio-allegro by Beethoven, performed by Alan
- Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso in A minor, Op. 28 by Saint-Saens, performed by Shishi accompanied by Alan

Now we will hear Jordan reading: Harboring and Home Becomes a Site.

Next we have Lucy reading: About that Name, Thunderstorm and Children’s Story.

From the November 11th Voice Recital we have:
- Giulio Cesare “Piangero la Sorte Mia” by Handel, performed by Hanna accompanied by Leigh Anne Gillespie

Finally, from the November 17th Student Chamber Music Concert we have:
- Romance from The Gadfly by Shostakovich, Performed by Charlotte, Min Yeong, Martin, Fu Yen, Shishi, Ai-Ching, and Kitty

In this edition of the ARTSPod, we'll hear selections from the February Orchestra Concert at Sherwood Auditorium in La Jolla, followed by a couple pieces from the Music in the Meadows performance here on campus. We will then showcase excerpts from four visiting authors brought to campus by the Creative Writing Department. Then we will hear a number of pieces from Musical Theatre in the Meadows and finish up with two selections from the last Jazz Concert.  

From the concert we have: Presto from Octet in E-flat Major, Op 20 - performed by the Miro' Quartet along with students, Dima, Lijia, Rita and Hyon Jae. Then, Romeo and Juliet Overture-Fantasy by Tchaikovsky.

After that we will hear two selections from Music in the Meadows: David will play Image by Bozza on the flute. Then Dima will play Caprice No. 21 by Paganini on the violin.

Then we have two readings from visiting authors who were brought to campus as part of the Creative Reading Series sponsored by the Creative Writing Department. Cecily Parks, poet and author of Field Folly Snow and Jennifer Chang, Poet and author of The History of Anonymity will both read selections from their poetry. Then we have a brief selection from a question and answer section with two more visiting artists - Timothy Solon Woodward, Novelist and Author of Cadillac Orpheus and Beena Kamlani, Fiction Writer and Essayist and author of short stories in Ploughshares and Virginia Quarterly Review and essays in Growing up Ethnic in America.

After the readings, we will hear seven selections from Musical Theatre in the Meadows from students: Caitlin, Georgina, Kelsey Ann, Aari, Brad, Kelsey and then Caitlin again.

Last in today's ARTSPod are two selections from the recent Jazz concert.

Welcome to the first ever ARTSPod, a monthly podcast produced by Idyllwild Arts. This week's cast includes excerpts from the creative writing reading January 14th, the Piano Fest January 15th and the vocal student recital January 21st.

Readings are from Benet, Shane, Khalid, and Ludmila.

In the pianofest excerpt you will hear:
Georgina and Kitty playing Gounod arr. De Vilback's Scenas Infantis: Run, Run!, Sleeping Time and Hobby-Horse

Yun-An and Ie Seul playing Rachmaninoff's Suite No. 2 for Two Pianos, Op. 17: Romance and Tarantella

Saro and Soo-Yun playing Grainger's Country Gardens.

Finally, the vocal recital features Hanna singing Love's Philosophy, Joey singing Money O!, Everett singing Ploughboy and Kathryn, The Singer.
